These retainers are used to convert the original retainer, bucket and shim to a more modern arrangement where the shim is held by the retainer bellow the bucket like it is commonly used in most current high performance motorcycles.
 
This has many advantages:
1 - The shim will not spit out when using aggressive camshafts and increasing the RPM limit because it is held between the retainer and the bucket.
2 - Great reduction in valvetrain weight of around 20g per valve can be expected. This reduction results from a lighter retainer (Titanium vs Steel), a much lighter shim (13mm vs 32mm) and a much lighter bucket.
 
These factors ensure the greatest performance and reliability for racing or heavily modified engines.

Made of best grade titanium - Grade 5.

The original retainers weight 16,2g and this titanium retainers weight 10,1g.

These retainers have a smaller profile/height (shorter by 0,5mm) to allow for more valve lift without contact with oil seal and without requiring valve guide modifications.
